The Kettlemere Centre is a Specialist SEND Hub attached to Lakelands Academy for students whose main area of need is Communication and Interaction.

Kettlemere students are supported to attend mainstream lessons where appropriate alongside therapeutic and holistic interventions which are delivered in the Centre to meet individual needs.

Due to rising numbers of pupils identified with Communication and Interaction difficulties as their primary need within the county, Shropshire Council have established a number of Specialist ’Hubs’ based on the sites of mainstream schools. These Hubs are strategically located across different regions of the county to encourage pupils to remain a part of their local communities.

The Kettlemere Centre was the first of these Hubs and is located in the north of the county here on the site of Lakelands Academy. It caters for 25 students with Communication and Interaction difficulties.

The aim of The Kettlemere Centre is to create a safe, happy and stimulating environment in which students progress academically and develop as confident and resilient members of the community. We consider each child as an individual and provide them with a personalised timetable that may involve, small group teaching, specialist 1:1 support and integration into mainstream classes. We provide supportive strategies to assist students to overcome their difficulties, and anxieties. We encourage pupils to develop an awareness both of themselves as individuals and their place within a group while also developing their self esteem and emotional stability and acceptability. The dedicated team of staff are committed to providing a structured, supportive and controlled learning environment in which they can help nurture each pupil to develop their own unique talents and prepare for adult life.

To achieve the best outcomes for each child here at this Hub, we work collaboratively with families, external agencies and Lakelands Academy. This enables us to consider the holistic needs of the child and access appropriate expertise and resources to implement effective interventions to ensure each child achieves their full potential.

Admissions

The Kettlemere Centre is a specialist provision for secondary age children with special educational needs (SEN) in the area of Communication and Interaction.

Students accessing the Centre will have either a Statement of SEN or an EHCP and will have found accessing the curriculum within a mainstream setting to be highly challenging.

To obtain a placement at the Kettlemere Centre a referral will need to be made to the Local Authority SEN Team following discussion with the SENCo at the child’s annual review. Following receipt of the referral, further advice might be requested to support the consultation. If, considering the evidence, it is deemed to be a suitable placement the case will be referred to the Special Schools Placement Panel where a decision will be made.

If you consider a placement at the Kettlemere Centre may be appropriate for your son/daughter and you would like to discuss this further, or to arrange a visit, click here to contact Julie Metcalf (Head of Faculty) or call on 01691 622543.

Further information is available on the Shropshire Council website.
