Since January 2013, Lakelands Academy has successfully bud for funding which now exceeds £4 million from Shropshire Council and the EFA (Education Funding Agency) from the Condition Improvement Fund. These monies have allowed us to undertake extensive building and refurbishment work, updating and modernising the facilities originally built in the 1950s to create an exemplary learning establishment. Over the last several years, we have undertaken ambitious building projects, creating the new purpose built Science block, housing 4 spacious laboratories and a classroom, the enlargement and remodelling of the World Studies Faculty, to provide spacious, fresh and Modern Foreign Languages and Humanities classroom, the redefining and refurbishment of our entire first floor, generating 4 new vibrant English rooms, a fantastic light and airy Conference Room, a number of other smaller rooms and the establishing of the Kettlemere Centre.

We have also been been able to update our existing buildings. re-roofing and insulating, installing new windows helping us to not only improve our environment but to operate more cost effectively. We have doubled the size of our dining room, creating an exceptional, modern and fresh student eating area and replaced and upsized our student toilet facilities.

In April 2016, we were successfully awarded £500k from EFA Condition Improvement Fund, enabling us to create a state of the art learning environment for the teaching of Creative Arts and Technology and enabling us to bring the various elements of this facility together into one area, enhancing the interaction and interconnection of these subjects. At the end of March 2017, building work was completed to create a new music suite including new sound proofed practice rooms, upgraded Food Technology room and the creation of a gastronomic teaching island, refurbished Art room, a new 3 room Graphics Products Suite, and a brand new Drama Suite fitted with a state of the art mobile sound and lighting rig complimenting both inside and outside spaces. It has also meant a pleasant farewell to a number of shabby old demountable classrooms that were erected as a temporary measure in the 1980s. In January 2019, our full sized All Weather Pitch was completed and in March 2020, we now have state of the art sound and lighting systems in the Main Hall complementing those in our Drama Suite.

These incredible new facilities have not only benefit our students but many areas are also available for community hire, offering a great venue for sporting activities, to host conferences, clubs, theatrical productions, talks and other activities.
