In September 2006 Mark was appointed Assistant Faculty Leader for Creative and Performing Arts/Head of PE at a Hadley Learning Community, a brand new all-through school in Telford & Wrekin. Mark remained at HLC for 15 years, progressing to Assistant Headteacher, Senior Assistant Headteacher and then Deputy Headteacher. Within these roles, amongst other things, Mark led on assessment, data and reporting; curriculum and timetable; pastoral - behaviour, safeguarding and inclusion; Year 7 mini-school initiative. He also taught a range of subjects including PE, Geography, History, Business, ICT and Science. Mark’s next move was to Moreton School (Wolverhampton) where he began as Deputy Headteacher and also held a role within the Trust School Improvement Team with responsibility for safeguarding and behaviour. Mark remained at Moreton for two years which included a six-month period as Acting Headteacher. Alongside PE, he also taught PSHE, RS and Art. In September 2023 Mark was delighted to return to Shropshire and to be appointed as Headteacher at Lakelands Academy.

The Governing Body of Lakelands Academy is formed of people from all walks of life - from parents of children in the academy, to members of the local community who want to give something to the School.
All give hugely of their time, free of charge, endeavouring to ensure that your child’s education is the best it can be.
The role of the governing board is a strategic one, its key functions are to:
- set the aims and objectives for the school
- set the policies for achieving those aims and objectives
- set the targets for achieving those aims and objectives
- monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives
- be a source of challenge and support to the headteacher (a critical friend)
- The Headteacher is responsible for the internal organisation, day to day management and control of the school and the implementation of the strategic framework established by the Governing Board.
The full Governing Body usually meets four times a year, but because the running of a school is a complex issue, the Governing Body is also split up into two main sub-committees. These are Finance, Staffing and General Purposes and Teaching and Learning. There are also a series of ad hoc committees that meet as necessary to deal with issues such as Admissions.
