Lakelands Academy Bake Off Final Culinary Masterpieces

Following on from Lakelands Academies hugely successful Bake Off, at which students wowed teachers and their peers with incredible culinary skills and raised over £200 for comic relief, the final was held at Lakelands Academy where students had to create a further baking masterpiece, this time being judged by Yossi Gliksman, owner of Upstairs Downstairs in Oswestry.

The finalists spent 2 ¾ hours baking and crafting a further stunning array of masterpieces. The Food technology room despite it being the final round and some great prizes on offer, was a fairly calm and relaxed environment. Competitors displayed a purposeful but friendly and supportive air, offering help and advice to each other whilst they strived to create layer upon layer of sponge, enrobing it in an endless rainbow of buttercream coatings, and topping it off with hand moulded chocolates, sugared flowers and a final dash of glitter here and there.

“I’m overwhelmed by the amount of talent and at such a very high level” said Head Teacher Mrs Bellis.

Miss Mansfield, the competition organiser agreed, “I’m very proud of the talent the students have shown today. Even with all of the competition stress, the cakes are really professional and are truly breath-taking.”

Guest judge, Yossi Gliksman was incredibly impressed with not only their teamwork, skill and techniques but also how fantastic the end results tasted.

“I am thrilled with the outcomes of this Bake Off as well As the camaraderie of the morning. It makes me feel very proud.” Stated food Technology Teacher, Miss Marks.
