French & Spanish
Faculty Teachers: Miss Preece, Miss Barnes
& Mrs Parkhurst
A knowledge of languages has become an essential life skill and so the majority of our students study at least French, up to the age of 16.
The emphasis throughout the school is on the use of MFL as a means of communication, and courses are aimed at teaching the language which students need to survive in a foreign country. Our teaching includes a variety of approaches, and is suitable for students of all abilities - enjoyment and success for our students being our main aims.
In both French and Spanish, students will learn to speak, listen, read and write in a variety of topics.
French lessons in Year 7 will explore topics such as family and friends, school, hobbies and where they live.
French lessons in Year 8 will include the topics of leisure, Paris, their identity, house and home.
French Lessons in Year 9 will cover the topics of descriptions, going out, sport & healthy lifestyles. Later in year 9 we will begin the AQA GCSE course
Spanish Lessons in Years 8 and 9 will cover the topics of introducing themselves, school, family, home and free time.
In Years 10 and 11 students continue with the AQA GCSE course that they began in Year 9 and will build upon their existing knowledge and skills to prepare them for their exams at the end of Year 11.
