The Creative Arts, Design and Technology Faculty at Lakelands Academy encompasses six subject areas; Art, Drama and Music, Food & Nutrition, Information Technology and Design & Technology. We pride ourselves on high standards, excellent discipline and the desire to constantly challenge and raise the standards of our students both in the classroom and through a program of extra-curricular activities.

We encourage students to develop many transferable skills through their Arts, Design and Technology education. These include, problem solving, team work, critical thinking and communication skills as well the ability to express their ideas in a multitude of ways.

We believe it is essential to keep up to date with current developments within these areas. We therefore actively encourage professional development through a structured yet flexible program. Our students have also benefited from working with professional artists and organisations. Recent years have seen performances and workshops from Theatre Centre, Shropshire Music Service and the Royal Navy to name but a few. This is complemented by the school being a host venue for Arts Alive professional performances, catering, design and technology competitions. We are also keen to establish close links with those outside the school by inviting the community to play an active part as both audience, participants and guest judges. Other community connections include exhibitions, performances and competitions at local venues throughout the county.

We are an extremely successful department which is reflected in our many showcase performances and exhibitions. We have a tradition of close, collaboration between the subjects for our annual whole school performance; our upcoming project is the Jungle Book. Recent productions have also include Labyrinth, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Matilda, Hairspray, Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat, West Side Story, Grease, Bugsy Malone, Sweeney Todd and Oliver.

There are a number of courses within each subject that are extremely popular at GCSE with a high percentage of our students taking one or more of the six subjects. This is an exciting time for the faculty and we are always looking to break new ground and challenge traditional perceptions within these subject areas.
